The automobile industry has been making progress after having a slow past year. The sales number is growing gradually and the big brands are making the most of this opportunity.
Mercedes Benz, a leading name in the automobile industry, unveiled its new Citan Van which converts to a micro camper van. As per reports, the mini motor home is actually an improvised look on the brand’s next-generation Citan Tourer that debuted just a few days ago.
A prototype of the new design was set to premiere at the 2021 Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany, which opens on August 28. However, Mercedes decided to give the world a sneak peek of their latest edition beforehand.
Created by camper specialist VanEssa from Germany, the rear section of the 2022 Citan comes with a kitchenette based on a drawer system. It comes with many features, varying from a built-in gas cooker and a sink to a 31-liter refrigerator and a 13-liter water tank. The entire kitchen module weighs around 60 kilograms (132 pounds), making it quite easy to install and remove in just a few minutes.
The kitchen can also hold crockery, glassware, pots, pans, and pantry supplies very efficiently. As per Mercedes, you can also customize the kitchenette in a range of colors to spice things up.
The second module converts the back of the van into a makeshift bedroom. The area spans from 3.8 feet by 6.2 feet and comes with a high-quality mattress that can easily accommodate two people. When not in use, the sleeping module can be stored in the boot right above the kitchenette module making it convenient to use the rear seats afterward.
As for the tech, the 2022 Citan comes with the latest MBUX infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, along with a semi-autonomous driving system that offers a blind-spot warning, active lane-keep amongst other features. It’s powered by a 1.5-liter diesel and a 1.3-liter gasoline engine, though a fully electric eCitan is also in the works.
The all-new Citan will roll out in the market in 2022.
