May 2025 recorded gross domestic collections of Rs 1,136 crore, making it the second-best month of the year after February, according to Ormax Media’s latest edition of The India Box Office Report.
The month’s performance was led by the Hindi film Raid 2 grossing over Rs 200 crore and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning crossing Rs 115 crore.
The cumulative box office for films released between January and May 2025 now stands at Rs 4,812 crore, marking a 27% increase over the same period in 2024. With three Hollywood titles — Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and Thunderbolts — May turned out to be the strongest month for Hollywood in India since July 2023, contributing Rs 262 crore and boosting Hollywood’s market share from 4% to 8%.
The top 10 grossers of 2025 so far include Chhaava with Rs 693 Cr, followed by Sankranthi Vasthunam at Rs 222 Cr, Raid 2 at Rs 200 Cr, Good Bad Ugly with Rs 183 Cr, Game Changer at Rs 153 Cr, Thudarum with Rs 141 Cr, Sky Force at Rs 130 Cr, L2E Impuraan at Rs 126 Cr, Dragon at Rs 122 Cr and Sikandar with Rs 121 Cr. The list features four Hindi films, with the remaining six evenly split between Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema — reinforcing the pan-India nature of theatrical success.
For language share calculation, the language-wise box office of films releasing in multiple languages is assigned to the corresponding language. However, for Hollywood, the data for all languages is reported under the language head ‘Hollywood’. The strong box office performance of Hollywood films in May has boosted Hollywood’s share from 4% to 8%, bringing it to a similar level as last year.
