The Central Government has constituted the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. The authority has been established through a notification issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in the Gazette of India.
As per the notification, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has been appointed as the Chairperson of the authority in an ex officio capacity.
The authority has included members from multiple ministries and departments. These have included the Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Joint Secretary from the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, the Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Joint Secretary from the Department of Legal Affairs under the Ministry of Law and Justice. All members have been appointed in an ex officio capacity.
The move has formalised the institutional structure for oversight and regulation of the online gaming sector under the 2025 legislation.
