Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced support for the establishment of AVGC content creator labs across 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The proposal has been outlined in the Union Budget 2026–27, as per media reports, with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, Mumbai, having been identified as the nodal institution for setting up these labs.
During her Budget speech, Sitharaman has stated that India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector is a growing industry and is projected to require around two million professionals by 2030.
