Top 10 Richest People In India 2021: IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List

IIFL Wealth Hurun India has recently released a list of the richest individuals in the country. And the results are mind-blowing. 1007 individuals spread across 119 cities, having a wealth of INR 1000 crore feature on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list 2021.


With an insurmountable INR 7,18,000 crore, Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in the country for the tenth year in succession. Both Gautam Adani and Vinod Shantilal Adani have entered the top ten, and Jay Chaudhury of ZScaler has made it to the top ten for the first time.

This year has seen the rise of 13 individuals worth INR 1 lakh crore or more and India now has 237-dollar billionaires, almost four times the number, since a decade ago.

Having 40 entrepreneurs, the pharmaceutical sector has witnessed the most billionaires. 894 individuals have increased their wealth and 229 are new individuals amongst them. 113 have seen a decline in their wealth and 51 have been dropped from the list, while 6 individuals have passed away. 74% of new individuals to enter the list are self-made. Mumbai tops the list with the maximum number of these rich individuals residing in the city, followed by Delhi.

46 founders of 26 unicorns have made it to the list. 13 people, all self-made, are born in 1990’s. Of these, Shashvat Nakrani of BharatPe is the youngest self-made individual at 23 years, while Neha Narkhede, co-founder of Confluent is the youngest self-made woman at 36 years of age. Smita V.Crishna of Godrej is India’s richest woman in the country, while Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is the richest self-made woman.

With 10 million followers on twitter, Ratan Tata continues to reign as the most followed entrepreneur on social media, followed by Anand Mahindra. Dropout’s from the list include the likes of Vijay Mallya, Anil Ambani, Venugopal Dhoot, Rana Kapoor, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Ranbaxy brothers-Malvinder and Shivinder Singh.

Let’s take a quick look at the 10 richest individuals in the country.

1. Mukesh Ambani- Reliance industries

Needing no introduction, at INR 7,18,000 crores, Ambani continues to be the wealthiest individual and under him, the company has become the 57th most valuable firm according to Hurun Global 500 Most valuable Companies 2021

2. Gautam Adani

With INR 5,05,900 crore, he is the only Indian to build 5 INR 1 lakh crore companies.

3. Shiv nadar

INR 2,36,600 crore, Shiv nadar has seen an increase of 67% in his wealth this year which helped him retain the third position on the list.

4. SP Hinduja and Family

The Hinduja brothers based between Mumbai, Geneva and London have moved down two positions since last year and have seen their valuation up to INR 2,20,000 crore due to good performance by their brands- by Ashok Leyland and IndusInd Bank

5. L.N.Mittal

The biggest steel maker outside China, ArcelorMittal tripled its share price over the year due to continued demand recovery and higher steel selling prices. At INR 1,74,400 crore, he is the fifth richest Indian.

6. Cyrus S Poonawall

Riding high on the success of Covid-19 vaccines, Serum institute Of india’s Cyrus Poonawalla debuted last year on the Hurun Global rich List and with INR 1,63,700 crore, he is the sixth richest man in India.

7. Radhakishan Damani

With INR 1,54,300 crore, Damani of Avenue Supermarts is the seventh richest man in india and his CEO Ignatius Noronha is the richest professional manager residing in the country.

8. Vinod Shantilal Adani

With INR 1,31,600 crore, Vinod Adani, who is based in Dubai and manages trading businesses in Jakarta, Dubai and Singapore is the eight richest Indian.

9. Kumar Mangalam Birla

The Aditya Birla Group heir is the ninth richest Indian with INR 1,22,200 crore.

10. Jay Chaudhry

New entrant Jay Chaudhry with INR 1,21,600 is the tenth richest Indian.
