Rajasthan High Court Stays Bailable Warrant Against Salman Khan In Misleading Ads Case

The Rajasthan High Court has stayed the bailable warrant issued against Bollywood actor Salman Khan by the Jaipur District Consumer Commission-II in connection with a misleading advertisements case. Following an order passed by Justice Anoop Singhi, Khan has no longer been required to appear before the Commission on April 13.

As per media reports, the date had earlier been set as a final opportunity for the actor, failing which arrest warrants were to be issued.

The case has stemmed from a complaint filed by Yogendra Singh Badiyal, alleging misleading advertisements by Rajshree Pan Masala and its brand ambassador Salman Khan. The products have been promoted as “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala,” with the complainant arguing that such claims create a false impression of safety despite known health risks associated with pan masala consumption.

On January 6, 2026, the Commission had imposed an interim ban on the promotion and advertisement of these products. However, advertisements have reportedly continued on January 9 across Jaipur, Kota, and other cities, which the Commission has viewed as a violation of its order.

In March, Salman Khan and the pan masala company have reportedly challenged prior orders, stating that action over misleading advertisements should only be initiated by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) or authorised officers. They have also argued that the complainant did not qualify as a “consumer.”

However, a bench led by Justice Devendra Kachhawaha, along with judicial member Arun Kumar Agrawal and member Liyaqat Ali, has held that centralising such powers in New Delhi could hinder effective consumer relief across the country.

The Consumer Commission has issued bailable warrants against Salman Khan on four occasions, though these have not been successfully served. During a recent hearing, the Commission has expressed displeasure and warned of stricter action in case of non-compliance.

It has observed that celebrity status does not place anyone above the law and noted that repeated non-appearance despite warrants undermines public confidence in the justice system. The Commission has also directed the Director General of Police to form a task force to serve the warrant in Mumbai, though the process has remained unsuccessful.
