Chennai: The Board of Directors of The Hindu Group Publishing has unanimously appointed N. Murali as its Chairman for a three-year term, succeeding Dr. Nirmala Lakshman, who stepped down as Chairperson at the Board’s meeting on June 18, 2026.
The recommendation was made by the Board’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee, chaired by Krishna Srinivasan, Senior Advocate, which cited his extensive experience and leadership at a time when the news media industry faces significant challenges.
A Chartered Accountant by training, Murali joined The Hindu’s family business in 1969 and has spent more than 56 years in newspaper management, business operations and finance. Over the course of his career, he has held several leadership positions within the group, including General Manager, Joint Managing Director and Managing Director of Kasturi & Sons. He currently serves as a director on the boards of both THGPPL and Kasturi & Sons.
The committee noted that Murali’s deep understanding of the newspaper industry and long-standing association with the group would help steer the company through an evolving media landscape.
