A few days ago we reported how India has jumped in the Ease of Doing Business rankings. The survey saw India’s climb of 23 places from 100 to 77 among 190 countries making it the only country to rank among the top 10 improvers for the second consecutive year. Different people are giving different reasons for this and Indian entrepreneurs were not behind in sharing their views too.

Ease of Doing Business

Paytm’s CEO and founder, Vijay Shekhar Sharma said: “(The jump in rankings by 23 places) is incredible news. This is exactly how governments should function, helping improve the ease of doing business. I have been an entrepreneur since 2001, and I can say this very confidently: the business environment, the understanding of what the country needs, and how small and large companies can contribute has been tremendously different in the last four years.”

Uday Kotak, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank feels that transparency is the thing that has changed most during the last few years. “The biggest area where I’m seeing change is we’re bringing in transparency, we’re bringing in process. At the same time we’re bringing in speed in clearances, and if there are bottlenecks, finding solutions to them,” he said.

R. C Bhargava, former C.E.O and current chairman of Maruti Suzuki believes that industries will find it easier to work in future. “There have been so many reforms that in the coming years, industries will find it much easier to work in India,”

Anand Mahindra sees this as a historical achievement, “Nobody’s seen a country make such a leap in the rankings in the last century,” he said. He feels that leadership is something that makes the difference in a business and congratulated PM Modi.
