1. McDonalds: ‘Inner Child’ (2020)

In 2020, the Christmas ad from a popular fast-food chain surprised viewers with its emotional storyline, portraying a single mother fostering family traditions. Set to the tune of ‘Forever Young’ by Becky Hill, the animation resonated with parents, garnering over 1.8 million views on YouTube and trending on social media with 37.6k likes and numerous retweets.

The #ReindeerReady campaign, featuring a microsite and app, allowed parents to create personalized videos, creating a buzz and positive sentiment. The brand effectively promoted its Christmas menu amid increased engagement, showcasing the success of their emotive advert strategy.

2. Coca-Cola: ‘Have yourself a Merry Christmas’ (2020)

The ‘Have Yourself a Merry Christmas’ campaign in 2020 beautifully captured the essence of Christmas—selflessness, especially for dads with daughters. Similar to a father going above and beyond for his daughter’s Christmas wish, Coca-Cola echoes this sentiment by striving to fulfill the wishes of their consumers.

3. Google: ‘Home Alone’ (2018)

Creating their Christmas marketing campaign around the beloved Christmas movie “Home Alone” was a brilliant move by Google. Witnessing the 38-year-old Kevin McCallister home alone once more was not only amusing but also highly relatable for millions who cherished the film in their childhood.

This strategic choice resonated particularly well with millennials, evoking a wave of childhood nostalgia and connecting with heavy users of Google Assistant.

4. Costa Coffee: ‘Christmas cup reveal’ (2020)

Costa Coffee went all out for Christmas, introducing festive hot drinks, iconic Christmas Cup Characters, and special holiday menus. Their digital Christmas campaigns in 2020, featured warm and magical content, created a joyful online experience. The app even embraced the colors of the season, making it a delightful treat for users.

5. IKEa: ‘Silence The Critics’ (2018)

Ikea, a top DIY furnishing and home improvement retailer, wasn’t known for aggressive digital Christmas campaigns, relying on #IkeaChristmas to showcase their products’ holiday charm. However, they broke tradition with their first Christmas ad on YouTube.

Unlike typical ads, they cleverly showcased products and portrayed a humorous reality of families unprepared for holiday entertaining but ready to deck up their homes with Ikea in the 2018 Christmas campaign.

6. KitKat: ‘Christmas break’ (2015)

In 2015, KitKat embraced its iconic tagline, “Have a Break, Have a KitKat,” in a Christmas campaign that encouraged a real break during the festive hustle. The simplicity of a bold voiceover stood out, offering a refreshing departure from traditional holiday themes while emphasizing KitKat’s brand message more emphatically.

7. Swiggy: ‘Swiggy Santa’ (2018)

Swiggy’s 2018 Christmas campaign embraced the holiday spirit by redefining the idea of Santa Claus. Through a digital ad featuring their 200+ women delivery partners, the campaign celebrated the spirit of hard work and diversity.

It charmingly conveyed that Santas don’t always need beards or pot-bellies, breaking the traditional mold. The alignment of Swiggy’s brand message with the festive vibe made this campaign a standout success.
