One such company is MPL – Mobile Premier League, which has surprised everyone, with its quick rise to success, its consumer base, and its technology.
What is MPL?
Launched in 2018 by Kiran G Sai Srinivas and Malhotra Shubham, Mobile Premier league, or commonly called MPL is a mobile app that holds a plethora of games, right from chess, rummy, carrom, ludo to Fantasy football, 8 ball pool, etc.
The company, based out of Bengaluru has Galactus Funware Technology Private Limited as its parent organization.
What’s the history?
What makes the company unique in its approach in the history of its founders. Sai Srinivas, not only has been a student of IIT Kanpur but he also has past entrepreneurial ventures like Base9.
Moreover, even Shubham Malhotra worked with brands like Hike messenger and Capillary technologies over his career. Both these founders had earlier launched CREO in 2014, which was then later successfully acquired by Hike messenger.
Their next venture together, MPL, right from designing, incentives to even the tagline ‘Game Khelo, Hero Bano’, shows the amount of thought, effort, and creativity behind each and every detail.
What stands out?
Well, to start off, MPL recently got a Series C funding from SIG, RTP Global, MDI Ventures, and Pegasus Tech Ventures, gaining a total sum of $90 million, which is no minor feat. Infact, it already has a good backing of investments from the likes of Sequoia Capital and Times Internet.
What are the achievements?
Their 4+ crore user base and huge product offering got them the ‘Best fantasy sports Operator’ award back in 2019, at the ‘India Gaming Award’ forum. Considering their competitors, including Dream11, NODWIN gaming, etc, it was an impressive victory.
With just one year in the bag, MPL got cricketer Virat Kohli as the brand ambassador for their product. Then, in the next year, they got actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the Brand Ambassador for the gaming business. With two such big celebrities working together, MPL has left no stone unturned.
What are the future plans?
With its FY 2019 revenue at Rs 2.87 crore, the plan for MPL now seems to move towards expansion and finding multiple partnership options.
Recent initiatives like sponsoring IPL teams and raising a huge funding amount, MPL could be one of the dark horses of the gaming world.
