There have been too many instances of Uber, Ola cabbies cancelling the rides. It is frustrating, time-wasting, and sometimes costly as well. But do not worry, good news has arrived. Cyberabad police have launched a crackdown on cabbies cancelling trips booked by citizens on ride-hailing apps.
According to Section 178 of Motor Vehicles Act, a contract carriage vehicle can’t deny a ride to passengers post-booking and are liable to pay a fine of INR 500.
Cyberabad Traffic Police last week tweeted, “Public can raise a complaint to traffic police if any cab/auto driver cancels ride. People can file a complaint to traffic police on WhatsApp number 9490617346 with vehicle number, date and time, location and a screenshot of the rejection.”

Within a few hours of tweet, an Ola Bike rider-partner was fined INR 500 after a passenger lodged the complaint. In less than a week, over 20 cab and bike drivers have been fined.
Obviously, drivers aren’t happy. To counter Cyberabad Traffic Police crackdown, two cab aggregators are trying to defend their drivers by not allowing passengers to see the details of the driver who cancelled the ride.
Cyberabad deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Vijay Kumaar told TOI, “
Since we began the drive, now whenever a driver cancels a ride, the cab service aggregators are not providing details rated to the vehicle fearing that passengers might lodge a complaint. So, we have written to both Ola and Uber informing that it was nothing but abetting an offence and hiding details of evidence.”
The DCP said that the two major cab aggregators have been directed to restore the old system and ensure potential passengers have access to driver and vehicle details even if the trip was cancelled. Cyberabad police said they were waiting for a response from the cab aggregators.
However, Uber and Ola told TOI, they would react after studying Cyberabad police’s letter.
