Earlier to this, several other social media platforms have come up with app alternatives that consume less data keeping in mind the trend of emerging market. Like Facebook launched Facebook Lite for its millions of users around the world.

The app takes up only 1GB of memory space in one’s mobile reducing data percent usage to 80% on your device. It will also load a page within five seconds and also works in a 2G environment. The App will feature all the basics including job searches, notifications and profile but heavy designs and graphics are ignored to cut off massive data usage.

Excited to announce the LinkedIn Lite Android App – it’s fast, reduces data usage by 80% and is less than 1MB https://t.co/SZaXEQs9V7 pic.twitter.com/7P2c9UvBfl

Presently the App is available in India but LinkedIn plans to launch it in 60 other countries soon. It is developed by LinkedIn’s R&D team in Bengaluru.

According to Company authorities, they don’t have the plan to launch an iOS app for LinkedIn Lite as in India most of the users are android users and only 3 % of smartphone users are iPhone users! And as they are looking for long time growth even in areas that are not economically well-off they are keeping it simple.

They in the last quarter contributed $975 million in revenue. Daily active users and engagements for the app are still to be revealed. Last year, Facebook Lite was Facebook’s fastest-growing app, and this year messenger targets to hit 20 million users.

LinkedIn has a growing market in India as India is growing each day and getting more developed with tech-savvy people. Also, the population is one of the major factors in the market!

LinkedIn in last few years has done much to make their platform look transparent and becomes user-friendly! They launched an online test to help people find job placements and a new set of business tools to help people build better profiles for themselves and their businesses. Let’s see whether this new Lite version of the mobile app has much to offer!

Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn’s country manager for India, said,

“Besides providing a fast, data-light solution for professionals in slow network areas, we hope the LinkedIn Lite app will democratise access to economic opportunity. Regardless of their device or location, we hope to level the playing field for all LinkedIn members so they can get closer to their dream jobs, grow their networks and become more successful.”
