Samsung Gets Caught In ‘False Advertising’ By Using DSLR Image To Promote Galaxy A8 Star Camera

Smartphone camera qualities have improved immensely. While the sales of high-budget phones are impacting DSLR makers, mobile phone companies seem to be getting more comfortable using actual DSLR photos into their advertising. The problem with this is that most phone cameras are still far from DSLR quality and it’s not a fair representation.

Samsung is receiving negative comments all across the internet for using a stock photo clicked by a DSLR for the promotion of its Galaxy A8 Star smartphone. According to DIY Photography, the photo, which is being represented for the upcoming Galaxy A8 Star bokeh camera mode was captured by a DSLR camera. If you are wondering who has revealed this, its none other than the girl in the photo itself-Dunja Djudjic.

Dunja’s photo was uploaded on EyeEm and sold through Getty Images. Knowing this, she did a reverse image search and found herself on Galaxy A8 Star’s product page by Samsung Malaysia. She tried contacting Samsung Malaysia and Samsung Global but was unable to get a response. Samsung hasn’t mention anywhere that the photo has been taken with the Galaxy A8 Star. Galaxy A8 Star product page is still live with the same photo. Dunja believes that while Samsung hasn’t taken the photo illegally, this does count as “false advertising”.

This isn’t the first case when a popular smartphone brand has been caught doing false advertising of the camera in their devices. Just a few months back, Samsung Brazil made controversies online for using stock photos from Getty Images. Huawei was also involved in a similar incident which came to notice after the model shared the on-shoot pictures which had DSLR. In September, Xiaomi Executive Donovan Sung was also caught using a fake image on his Instagram to promote POCO F1.
