See How A Mumbai-based Trader Lost Rs 4 Lakh To Fake Patanjali Website

With the growth of technology and Internet, the number of cyber crimes has increased immensely. Thieves have become smart as they are coming up with fresh ideas to cheat people. Recently, a Mumbai-based trader got cheated on by a fake Patanjali website online. The victim has lodged a complaint with Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan. According to the complaint, the 22-year old owned Ayurvedic products shop at Kalyan and wanted to expand his business. To do so, he searched for agencies that could support him.

In response, he got a call and the caller asked him to pay an additional amount as the vehicle of consignment had some more space and could accommodate more goods. He agreed to this and despite paying a total Rs 4 lakh, he did not get the goods. After waiting for days, he finally realized that he has been cheated and decided to report this to the police.

“Earlier this month, the victim opened a website thinking that it was the original website of Patanjali Ayurved. After filling the distributorship form online, he got a mail saying he has been selected for it by the company. He was then asked to pay money into the given ban account, which he did,”

a police statement read.

A complaint has been filed against a caller, who identified himself as Pintu Paswan. Police have also registered a case under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and the IT Act. The investigation into the case is on, police said.
