Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has promoted Rupen Thakkar as Vice President & Head Counsel – Networks (Television & Sports), StudioNext & Corporate. The update was announced by Thakkar via his LinkedIn.
Prior to this elevation, Thakkar served as Senior Lead Counsel – Sports Television & Corporate from October 2024 to May 2026. Before that, he held the role of Senior Lead Counsel – Network Channels Production & StudioNext between April 2023 and September 2024.
He initially joined SPNI as Lead Counsel – Network Channels Production & StudioNext in November 2022, a position he held until March 2023.
Before moving to SPNI, Thakkar was associated with Unacademy as AVP Legal from April 2021 to November 2022.
Earlier, he worked with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited as AVP Legal – Television and Zee5 from August 2017 to April 2021.
Between May 2013 and July 2017, he served as Director – Legal and Company Secretary at IndiaCast Media.
His earlier professional stints include working in Legal and Corporate at Sahara India from March 2011 to May 2013, and serving as Company Secretary & Legal at Overseas Infrastructure Alliance (India) Pvt Ltd from 2009 to 2011. Thakkar also worked as Company Secretary & Legal at Nimbus Communications between 2007 and 2009.
The elevation comes as SPNI continues to strengthen leadership across its network, sports and studio businesses.
