Sameer Nair has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Applause Entertainment after close to nine years, bringing an end to his tenure at the content studio backed by the Aditya Birla Group.
Nair has shared the update via a LinkedIn post, where he has announced his decision to move on and pursue a new challenge.
Prior to this, Nair has been serving as Managing Director at Applause Entertainment since August 2017 to May 2026, based in Mumbai. Before joining Applause, he has worked as Group CEO at Balaji Telefilms from July 2014 to July 2017. Between 2012 and June 2014, he has been a Co-Founder across multiple ventures including Pride Rock, One Network, Constellation Media, House Proud, and O:h Cha.
Earlier, he held the position of CEO at NDTV Imagine from 2007 to 2011. His long-standing association with Star India has spanned from 1994 to 2006, where he has served in multiple leadership roles including Programming Head, COO, and CEO. He has also worked as Director/Executive Producer at Goldwire Communications from 1989 to 1993 in Chennai, and began his career as an Account Executive at UDI Yellow Pages in Mumbai from 1987 to 1989.
