Google has launched the Gemini app for Mac, expanding access to its AI assistant across desktop environments. The app has allowed users to access Gemini directly from any screen without opening a browser tab, enabling faster interactions while working.
The Mac version has enabled users to receive contextual assistance by sharing their screen, allowing the AI to respond based on visible documents, code, or data. The feature has aimed to reduce the need for manual input by offering responses tailored to on-screen activity.
The app has also introduced a global shortcut (Option + Space), providing instant access to Gemini for tasks such as brainstorming, retrieving information, or clarifying concepts. This integration has positioned the tool as an always-available assistant within the desktop workflow.
Additionally, the app has incorporated creative capabilities, including image generation and video creation tools, allowing users to produce content directly from their desktops. This has extended Gemini’s functionality beyond text-based assistance to a broader creative suite.
The Gemini app for macOS has been made available at no cost across supported regions and languages. It has required macOS Sequoia (15.0) or later and has run exclusively on Apple Silicon devices.
