Mithun Manhas has formally taken over as the 37th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during its 94th annual general meeting (AGM) held on Sunday.
Manhas, along with other BCCI office-bearers, including secretary Devajit Saikia, has been elected unopposed, continuing the convention of candidates winning without contest for the past six years.
The AGM has also approved key appointments in selection panels. Former India bowlers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha have replaced S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee in the senior men’s selection panel, while Sharath has been reappointed as chairman of the junior men’s panel. In women’s cricket, Amita Sharma has been named chairperson of the senior selection panel, joined by Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma and Sravanthi Naidu.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has recommended the selectors’ appointments after interviewing 15 candidates for seven posts. Naik, who was earlier a CAC member, had resigned before applying for the role of selector.
Among the other office-bearers, Saikia has retained his post as secretary, vice-president Rajiv Shukla has continued in his role, A. Raghuram Bhat has been elected as treasurer, and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has been named joint-secretary. Jaydev Shah has joined as councillor in the BCCI apex council, while Arun Singh Dhumal has continued as IPL Governing Council chairman.
The AGM has also seen reconstitution of committees, including the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Committee chaired by Jayesh George, and the Infrastructure Committee led by Rohan Jaitley.
