The government has appointed Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the new Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), following the superannuation of V Raghunandan last month.
Chaudhary, a 1989-batch Indian Telecommunication Services (ITS) officer and deputy director general at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has been deputed for a two-year term, as per reports.
As a telecom regulatory official, Chaudhary would have to collaborate closely with industry stakeholders, particularly service providers, on the watchdog’s ongoing initiatives, including efforts to curb unsolicited communications and improve quality of service (QoS).
Earlier, he served as the Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
He held multiple roles in the personnel, human resources (HR), administration, licensing, and vigilance divisions at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and DoT.
