The Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI have announced a multi-dimensional strategic partnership to drive AI-led innovation across enterprise, consumer, and social sectors in India and globally.
Under the partnership, several thousand Tata Group employees have gained access to Enterprise ChatGPT to accelerate productivity and innovation. TCS has also leveraged OpenAI’s Codex to improve software engineering outcomes across projects.
The companies have come together to build industry-specific Agentic AI solutions, combining OpenAI’s AI platforms with TCS’ domain expertise and industry knowledge. They have also initiated joint go-to-market efforts to help enterprises in India and international markets deploy, integrate, and scale AI solutions tailored to their business needs.
As part of the infrastructure roadmap, TCS’ HyperVault unit and OpenAI have agreed to a multi-year partnership to develop AI infrastructure in India. In the initial phase, TCS has committed to developing 100MW capacity, with an option to scale up to 1 GW. The infrastructure has been designed to support next-generation AI workloads and strengthen India’s position in global AI development.
On the social impact front, the OpenAI Foundation and TCS have collaborated to provide AI training and resources to Indian youth. The initiative has aimed to develop technology toolkits for NGOs and launch youth-focused programs designed to improve livelihoods for at least one million young Indians.
TCS established HyperVault in 2025 to deliver large-scale AI-ready infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI-driven organisations, powered by green energy and designed with high-density, liquid-cooled data centre capabilities.
Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future. Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India, so that more people across the country can access and benefit from it.”
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “This deep collaboration between OpenAI and Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are pleased to partner with OpenAI to create state-of-the-art AI infrastructure in India. This is a unique opportunity for OpenAI and TCS to transform industries. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era.”
