Shiv Nadar Tops EdelGive India Philanthropy List 2022, Nikhil Kamath Emerges As Youngest Philanthropist

The 9th Annual ranking of the most generous individuals in the country, The EdelGive India Philanthropy List 2022 is out.

This year, the list features 108 individuals who have donated more than 5 crores.

Results of the List

Founder of HCL Technologies, Shiv Nadar has topped the list, emerging as the most generous individual, with annual donations amounting to INR 1161 crores, which is almost INR 3.1 crore made every day in the last year.

The legendary philanthropist, Wipro founder Azim Premji slipped to the second position with an annual donation of INR 484 crores.

He is followed by Reliance head honcho Mukesh Ambani, who donated INR 411 crore last year. Kumar Mangalam Birla has come fourth with annual donations amounting to INR 242 crores.

Philanthropist couple and Mindtree founder Subroto and Susmita Bagchi have made annual donations of INR 213 crores. They share the fifth spot with another couple Radha and NS Parthasarathy, who is the co-founder of Mindtree.

The richest Asian and Indian, Gautam Adani is the seventh most generous individual in the country. He made an annual donation worth INR 190 crore.

Next, we have the Chairman of Vedanta Resources Limited, Anil Agarwal who made donations worth INR 165 crores. He is followed by Nandan Nilekani with INR 159 crores given in donations.

Tenth on the list is L&T Chairman, Anil Manibhai Naik, who donated INR 142 crore last year.

Most generous Women

Author and Founder of Arghyam Foundation, Rohini Nilekani has emerged as the most generous woman in India, with donations amounting to INR 120 crores.

Second on the list is Leena Gandhi Tewari, Chairperson of USV Pvt Ltd who made donations worth INR 21 crore.

Anu Aga, the chairperson of Thermax Ltd donated INR 20 crores and is the third most generous woman this year.

Interesting facts

Brothers and Zerodha co-founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath deserve special mention, with their donation of INR 100 crore, making them the 9th largest individual givers in the country.

Nikhil Kamath at 36 years of age is the youngest philanthropist this year.

Education emerged as the most popular cause for philanthropy this year. It is followed by healthcare and supporting environmental causes

2. The donations accounted for in the list were calculated by the value of cash or cash equivalents from the time period of 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022.
