Reliance Industries is preparing for a major entry into the satellite communications space with plans for a multi-billion-dollar investment in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, positioning itself against global players such as Starlink, Amazon Kuiper and Eutelsat OneWeb.
According to media reports, the Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate is exploring the venture under Jio Platforms as part of a broader push to build India’s domestic satellite broadband capabilities. The initiative is expected to focus on delivering high-speed internet connectivity, especially across remote and underserved regions in India.
Reports also suggest that Reliance has formed six dedicated teams to work across various aspects of the project, including satellite launches, payload systems, ground infrastructure and user terminals. Ambani is said to be closely overseeing the initiative alongside senior leadership teams.
The move comes amid intensifying global competition in satellite internet services, with LEO satellite networks increasingly seen as critical infrastructure for future connectivity and digital inclusion.
