The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to 14 food business operators (FBOs), directing them to take corrective action over claims, product descriptions and labelling practices that may mislead consumers.
According to a post shared by the regulator on X, the action was taken under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with food safety and labelling regulations.
Among the products flagged was Pluckk Mango Fruit Juice for its “100% Natural” claim, while Natural Paneer was pulled up over the use of the trade name “Natural”. Gaur Healthy Food Silken Tofu was flagged for making anti-cancer claims, and ATOM PWR Whey XL for claims related to improved exercise tolerance, rapid recovery and enhanced performance.
The regulator also raised concerns over Saffola Total Heart Pro Cooking Oil for claims associated with reduced fat absorption and heart health benefits, ORVILLE Mountain Bawarchi Buransh Squash for detoxification-related claims, and Nexa Industries Alkaline Nutrient Water for claims linked to the purported benefits of alkaline water.
In the beverages category, Raw Pressery Alphonso Mango Drink was flagged for carrying the declaration “contains naturally occurring sugars” despite the presence of added fructose. Incipro Gold Powder Vanilla came under scrutiny for claims relating to brain development and nutritional benefits, while Himalayan Organics Korean Ginseng was flagged over concerns related to ginseng content declarations and associated health claims.
FSSAI also cited concerns involving MasterChow Ramen Noodles and Kinder Joy Coated Wafer Biscuits with Cocoa Spread related to product categorisation and labelling. Separately, Bikanervala and Param Dairy were flagged over consumer complaint and hygiene-related issues.
The regulator said the companies have been instructed to undertake corrective measures to ensure compliance with established food safety, labelling and advertising norms and to prevent consumer deception.
