Shubha Iyer has been appointed as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CommBank India at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where she will lead the company’s India operations with a focus on technology capabilities, digital innovation and large scale transformation initiatives.
The appointment was announced through a post shared by Commonwealth Bank of Australia, India via LinkedIn.
Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank India in April 2026, Iyer spent more than 16 years at Goldman Sachs across multiple leadership roles. Most recently, she served as Managing Director (MD) and Global Lead for Control, Finance and Operations Strategic Initiatives from June 2025 to May 2026, driving strategic transformation initiatives across global functions.
Before that, she was Managing Director for Firmwide Operational Risk and Resilience from October 2022 to August 2025, overseeing operational resilience and third party risk management. Earlier, she held the role of Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for India Engineering from June 2019 to September 2022.
Between May 2017 and September 2022, she also served as Managing Director for Resilience Engineering and Global Lead for the Automation Center of Excellence. Prior to that, Iyer was Managing Director (MD) and Co-Head of Enterprise Platforms in India from January 2016 to May 2017 and Vice President for Cross Divisional Projects and Architecture from January 2010 to December 2015.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, she worked at Diamond Management and Technology Consultants as Consultant from May 2005 to January 2010 and at Forge Advisors from May 2004 to April 2005. Earlier, she served as Consultant at Freddie Mac from August 2002 to January 2004 after previously working there as Programmer Analyst from February 1999 to March 2001.
She also worked as Software Engineer at Siebel Systems from April 2001 to July 2002, Consultant at Hewlett Packard from February 1998 to February 1999 and Programmer at TVS Electronics from July 1995 to April 1997.
