Castrol India has announced the appointment of Saugata Basuray as Managing Director (MD) of the company for a five year term beginning 1 June 2026 and ending 31 May 2031, subject to approval from shareholders and other applicable statutory approvals. The appointment was approved by the Board of Directors following the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC). Basuray currently serves as Wholetime Director and Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.
As per the regulatory filing Basuray is not related to any Director or Key Managerial Personnel of the company. It further declared that he is not debarred from holding office as a director by any order of SEBI or any other authority. Basuray brings more than 26 years of experience across sales, marketing and business leadership. He joined Castrol India in 1999 as a Management Trainee soon after completing his MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, SIBM.
Early in his career, he served as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director (MD) of the company and Regional Vice President bp, which gave him exposure to strategic leadership and global business operations. In 2008, he moved to Castrol’s global headquarters in the United Kingdom, where he was part of the marketing team that helped build Castrol Edge into a global brand.
After returning to India, he led sales for the B2B channel and later served as Head of Marketing for Castrol India. He was subsequently appointed to lead Castrol Philippines from 2013 to 2017 and later took charge as Managing Director of Castrol’s joint venture in Indonesia.
Before becoming Interim CEO, Basuray was Wholetime Director and Head B2C Business at Castrol India, where he led a multi year transformation of the company’s go to market model and expanded its distribution network across rural India.
