Bharat Petroleum has announced a major change in its senior leadership. Sanjay Khanna, Director of Refineries, has been assigned additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company, effective May 1, 2025. The appointment was made by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
Throughout his career, Khanna has led several key projects across BPCL’s refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Numaligarh. Before his current role, he headed both the Mumbai and Kochi Refineries.
Khanna is a seasoned industry professional with over three decades of experience in refinery operations and technical services. He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, and a postgraduate degree in Finance Management from Mumbai University.
In addition to his responsibilities at BPCL, Khanna serves as a Director on the Boards of Bharat PetroResources and Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals. He also chairs the Technical Committee for Petroleum Refineries under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The leadership transition follows the retirement of Krishnakumar Gopalan, Chairman and Managing Director and Sukhmal Kumar Jain, Director of Marketing, who both ended on April 30, 2025.
Alongside this development, Rajkumar Dubey, Director (Human Resources), has been entrusted with additional charge as Director of Marketing, also effective from May 1, 2025.
