Adobe Co-Founder John Warnock Passes Away, He Was 82

Co-founder and former Chairman of the Board at Adobe Systems, John Warnock passed away on 19th August 2023. He was 82.

The cause of his death was undisclosed.

Recognized as one of the greatest and most impactful inventors, Warnock co-founded Adobe in 1982 with Charles Geschke, who passed away last year.

“It is a sad day for the Adobe community and the industry for which he has been an inspiration for decades,” Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen said in an email sent to employees.

Warnock was president of Adobe for the company’s first two years. He then served as CEO at Adobe for the next 16 years.

Warnock retired as CEO in 2000 and as the company’s CTO in 2001. He served as chairman of the board from April 1989 to January 2017, sharing position with co-founder Charles Geschke from September 1997 onwards.

John Warnock was called the modern-day Gutenberg, and played a major role in transforming the field of visual communication with renowned graphic and multimedia software packages, that made desktop publishing famous.

He held six patents, and is considered a legend in the field of computer software innovation, making Adobe a reputable and one of the biggest personal computer software brand, globally.
