The Automobile industry has been booming in India today. During the pandemic, the global sale might have gone down substantially, however, since last year, the numbers have increased gradually.
India has been a strong market for all international and domestic car manufacturers. However, the rise in fuel prices and the continuing semi-conductor shortage has affected the sales by the end of the second quarter of 2022.
Around 2,93,081 passenger cars were sold in the Indian market for April 2022. The sales have increased a dismal 2.4% as compared to last year in the same month.
As per annalysts, these are the top-selling cars in India in April 2022.

2. Hyundai
Vehicle Sales: 44,001
Market Share: 15%
3. Tata Motors
Vehicle Sales: 41,590
Market Share: 14.2%
4. Mahindra
Vehicle Sales: 22,169
Market Share: 7.6%
5. Kia India
Vehicle Sales: 19,019
Market Share: 6.5%
Maruti Suzuki has been leading the market with a huge margin over its competitors. The company has managed to secure more than 40% market share.
Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brizza, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Maruti Suzuki Desire, and Maruti Suzuki Alto have been the top sellers of the brand.
Hyundai Creta has witnessed a marginal increase since last year as well with 12651 cars sold in April this year. While Tata Nexon is amongst the top sellers of its brand with around 13,471 units sold in April 2022. Nexon has had a 95% YOY increase.
In India, people are more inclined on buying a new car during the festive season. It is normally during the Diwali season that the car sales number skyrocket substantially.
It can be said that the rise in fuel price, increase in the price of cars, and other external factors can be considered as some of the reasons that have affected the overall sales.
