The pandemic has affected many businesses all over the world. While there are numerous industries that have been affected by the widespread of the COVID19, multiplexes have also experienced a huge loss in the past year.
With the lockdown imposed, production companies started launching their new projects on OTT platforms. This impacted more on the business of multiplexes.
However, since the theatre halls were shut for more than a year and a half, people shifted their interest in OTT platforms, encouraging movie makers to tap into the huge viewer base of these platforms.
But now, many state governments are lifting the ban and curbing the restrictions around the operation of movie theatres. This is done taking into consideration the safety measures and a list of protocols are in place.
For Maharashtra, watching your favorite movie on the big screen might finally come true. Maharashtra CM Shri Uddhav Thackeray recently shared the news on his Twitter handle.
Theatres and auditoriums in Maharashtra will open after 22nd October 2021 while observing all COVID safety protocols. SOP is in the works and will be declared soon.

Following the announcement of the reopening of multiplexes, many filmmakers announced the release of their upcoming projects.
Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi has been announced to be released on Diwali, in November this year. Later that month, ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2‘ is said to be released on November 19, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji.
Here are the upcoming movies that the viewers will get to enjoy on the big screen in 2022.
1. Prithviraj
Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar is all set to release on 21 January 2022. The film is based on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan.
2. Laal Singh Chaddha
Laal Singh Chaddha is a comedy-drama film directed by Advait Chandan starring Amir Khan and Naga Chaitanya. The movies will be released on 14 Feb next year.
3. Jayeshbhai Jordaar
Jayeshbhai Jordaar features Ranveer Singh in the titular role of a Gujarati man who believes in equal rights between males and females in society. The movie will release 25 February 2022.
4. Bachchan Pandey
Starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles, Bachchan Pandey will be released in theatres on 4 March 2022.
5. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 iconic horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 stars Kartik Aaryan, Tabu, and Kiara Advani. The movie is set to be released on the big screen on 25 March 2022.
6. KGF 2
Sequel to the 2018 film K.G.F: Chapter 1, KGF 2 is one of the most awaited movies in India. The movie starring the iconic, Yash, will be released next year on 14th April.
7. Mayday
Directed and produced by Ajay Devgn, Mayday is a drama thriller that will be released on 29 April 2022.
