Manushi Chhillar won Miss World title
The biggest achievement for India in the fashion and beauty industry was Manushi Chhillar winning the Miss World title for India after 17 years. With this, Manushi became only the 6th woman from India to be crowned Miss World.
Actresses Anushka Sharma & Sonam Kapoor started their own clothing labels.
The fashion industry is using the popularity of Bollywood heroines from years but 2017 saw something new. Famous Bollywood actresses launched their own fashion labels this year. However, Anushka had to face some allegations with her brand NUSH that some of the designs in NUSH had been copied from a Chinese e-commerce website. Sonam Kapoor started a fashion firm Rheson with her sister Rhea Kapoor.
Transgender model walked at Lakmé Fashion Week
Anjali Lama, who originally belongs to Nepal, became the first transgender model to walk at the Lakmé Fashion Week. Anjali was seen walking on the runway for Indian fashion designer Monisha Jaising, The model was born in Nuwakot district as a boy and decided to change that to become Nabin Waiba.
Manish Arora showcased his Paris collection in India
Famous fashion designer Manish Arora showcased his Paris collection on the Indian runway for the first time. The collection was full of beautiful colours and was loved by everyone.
France decided to ban extremely thin fashion models
Whenever we think about fashion models, an image of a thin girl walking on the ramp comes in our mind. To look ultraslim, models sometimes follow things that are even not good for their health. France made a law in 2017 according to which models will be forbidden to work unless they have a doctor’s medical certificate that shows that they are healthy.
In addition to this, many innovative fashion shows were seen throughout the year which shows that the industry is going in the right direction.
