As the number of coronavirus cases takes a leap with the days progressing, staying home is a necessity now. Because a lot of you depend on ordering food online, we have tried putting some light on how you should proceed with it.

To begin with, there is currently not much evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted through food but the food packaging can easily transfer germs as they are known to live on surfaces for up to nine days. This means that cooked food is much safer and you don’t have to worry too much about the chef transmitting the new coronavirus via food. While home-cooked meals should be the ideal way to sustain this quarantine, every once in a while we all get tired and thus ordering is the only option we have. Hence, many delivery portals are available with restaurants and cafes providing food after strict precautionary methods, daily hygiene checkups and mandatory follow-ups with the WHO (World Health Organisation) standards.
No matter what precautions they take, you should do your part by following these precautionary methods listed below,
• Avoid direct hand-to-hand contact with the delivery executive.
• If the delivery service is providing ‘No-contact delivery’ option, make sure you don’t miss out on it.
• Try to avoid cash on delivery options and pay online to prevent any direct contact with the delivery executive while receiving your products.
• In the case of packaged food with containers and utensils provided by the restaurant, make sure that you wash the packaging before consuming the food. Don’t store them at any cost. Dispose of the utensils and transfer the food content to your containers at home.
• For fruits and vegetables, wash them with tap water thoroughly and let them dry to eliminate the risks.
• Avoid eating leftover food and always boil water before drinking to kill germs
• Avoid touching your face or any surface if you have a cough or cold. Wear a mask to stop transmission of germs and wash your hands frequently.
Let us know how you are spending this quarantine period with your family.
