Senior journalist and Aaj Tak anchor Anjana Om Kashyap, along with TV Today Network, has filed a civil defamation suit before the Delhi High Court against educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, and others, seeking Rs 2 crore in damages.
As per media reports, the suit, titled Anjana Om Kashyap & Anr v Faisal Khan & Ors, has named Khan Sir, Abhinay Sharma of Abhinay Maths, Babita Tyagi, Arvind Bhadauriya, 4PM News and others as defendants.
According to reports, the suit has alleged that the defendants made “scandalous, false, and grossly defamatory” statements against Kashyap following her on-air comments regarding the growing influence of “star teachers” and online coaching platforms.
The petitioners have alleged that the remarks were part of an online campaign against Kashyap and TV Today Network. The allegedly defamatory content has been circulated across platforms including YouTube, Meta and X, according to the suit.
The suit has referred to expressions such as “bikau patrakar”, “chatukar”, “dalaali” and “fake news ki dukaan”, alleging that these remarks have caused reputational harm to Kashyap and the network.
The petitioners have also raised privacy concerns, alleging that certain comments have crossed personal boundaries by referring to details related to Kashyap’s daughter.
The suit has sought the removal of allegedly defamatory videos, comments and social media posts from digital platforms. It has also sought directions restraining the defendants from publishing further defamatory material against Kashyap and TV Today Network.
The matter has been listed before the vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna on June 8. Kashyap had commented on the commercialisation of education and the influence of popular online teachers during a broadcast on Aaj Tak.
