United Spirits has announced the full divestiture of its 100% stake in Royal Challengers Sports to a consortium comprising Aditya Birla Group, The Times Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone for Rs 166.6 billion in an all-cash transaction.
The company has entered into definitive agreements following approval from its Board of Directors. The deal has covered the sale of Royal Challengers Sports, which owns and operates the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchises participating in both the Indian Premier League and the Women’s Premier League.
Upon completion, the consortium has been set to acquire ownership and operational rights of the franchise through Royal Challengers Sports. The transaction has marked the conclusion of the strategic review initiated by United Spirits in November 2025.
The deal has remained subject to customary closing conditions and approvals, including from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Competition Commission of India.
Commenting on the transaction, Praveen Someshwar, MD & CEO of United Spirits, has said the move aligns with the company’s focus on its core business and long-term value creation.
In a joint statement, the acquiring consortium, comprising Aditya Birla Group, The Times Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone — has stated its intent to build on the franchise’s existing position and expand its growth across on-field and commercial opportunities.
Advisory support for the transaction has been provided by Citigroup India and AZB & Partners.
