OpenAI is set to establish its presence in India with its first office in New Delhi later this year, the company announced through Jake Wilczynski, Head of Communications, APAC, in a post on LinkedIn.
“OpenAI is expanding to India! Later this year we’ll open our first India office in New Delhi,” Wilczynski wrote, adding that AI adoption in the country has been “incredible.”
According to him, India is ChatGPT’s second-largest market by users after the US. Weekly active users of ChatGPT in India have surged more than fourfold in the past year. The country also ranks among the top five developer markets globally on the OpenAI platform and has the largest population of students using ChatGPT worldwide.
The move underscores India’s growing importance in the global AI ecosystem and OpenAI’s strategy to deepen its engagement in one of its fastest-growing markets.
