Facebook has been completely clear with its aim of connecting the world and ruling the social media across the world. This aim became more strong after owning Instagram which is now the platform creating most buzz online. Instagram has upgraded its previous 1-minute limit and will allow users to upload videos up to one hour in length.
“We launched IGTV (a button inside the Instagram home screen, as well as a standalone app) at an event featuring many of the Instagram creators who’ll make it great,” Instagram shared in a blog post.
Instagram now has over 1 billion monthly active users and the new option IGTV will let all users be a creator and let them upload videos through app or the web. On IGTV, videos can go as long as ten minutes and for creators with massive audiences they can post up to 60 minutes of video. All videos will be pre-recorded not live although it is expected to get the live in the future. Instagram has associated popular celebrities including Kim Kardashian, West and Selena Gomez who will be among the first to upload longer-form content to their accounts. Instagram launched Stories and live broadcasts in 2016, which have since become two of its most popular features and the company is aiming to target Snapchat and YouTube.
“It is a new app for watching long-form, vertical video from your favourite Instagram creators, like LaurDIY posting her newest project or King Bach sharing his latest comedy skit. While there’s a standalone IGTV app, you’ll also be able to watch from within the Instagram app so the entire community of one billion can use it,”
the company added.
How will it appear?
As IGTV and Instagram work together, you don’t have to create a separate IGTV login. The videos will appear as a series of rectangular thumbnails at the bottom of the creator’s page. When the user taps, the video goes full screen.
