Social media platform X has introduced paid partnership labels and labels for AI‑generated content to make promotional and AI‑assisted posts more transparent for users and to help creators and brands distinguish between organic and paid or AI‑produced material.
Under the new framework, posts that involve compensated partnerships must display a paid partnership label, and content generated with the help of artificial intelligence is required to carry an AI‑generated content label. The updates are part of X’s broader efforts to clarify advertising and endorsement disclosure standards and align with growing industry and regulatory expectations around digital content transparency.
The changes come as X continues to adjust its content policy and advertising tools, including regional restrictions on certain types of paid content such as crypto promotions in areas like the European Union and the United Kingdom. These adjustments aim to balance creator monetisation opportunities with user trust and compliance with local financial promotion laws.
Creators and brands are now responsible for ensuring that paid posts and AI‑generated material comply with the platform’s labeling requirements. Posts that do not meet these disclosure rules may be subject to removal or other policy actions.
The rollout of these labeling tools is part of X’s ongoing update to its platform standards, designed to improve clarity around sponsored and AI‑assisted content and provide creators with frameworks to build business opportunities while maintaining transparency for audiences.
