One thing that unites people around the world is the desire to don the best jewelry ever. It may not have to be of original gems or the most expensive one. The mere style and look of it add up to one’s persona.
There are many who love to collect their piece of jewelry and for years, the jewelry boxes get filled with pieces full of memories. People then hand them down to their generation making it an heirloom.
However, one woman in the UK may not have clearly judged the real value of her jewelry box. It was only when she was about to through away a ring she thought was scrap that she got the shock of her life.
The women got to know that the jewellery she was going to throw away is a 34-carat diamond worth £2 million (Rs 20 crore). The ring was bought by her years back in a car sale and she had no idea it had a real diamond.
It was her who neighbours suggested that the ring seems expensive than she believes it to be.
Mark Lane of Featonby’s Auctioneers in North Shields, North Tyneside, told BBC that the lady came in with a bag of jewellery as she just thought she would bring it in as she was passing because she had another appointment in the town. It had been in a box along with her wedding band and a number of low-value costume jewellery items.
They saw quite a large stone which was bigger than a pound coin. That is when they realised that it was a CZ [cubic zirconia, a synthetic diamond lookalike]. It was after a couple of days that they decided to use a diamond tester machine.
The ring was then sent it off to their partners in London before it was certified by experts in Antwerp, Belgium, who confirmed it is 34 carat.
The gem is set to be auctioned on November 30 and till then, it has been placed securely at a location in London’s diamond quarter Hatton Gardens.
