Top 10 Industries In India With Highest No. Of Billionaires

As of April 2022, India has reported a total 166 billionaires, placing the country third in the world, after the United States and China.

While the numbers are ever-growing, there are some that are maintaining their stronghold in their respective fields. Here are the top industries that have delivered the most billionaires to date.

1. Pharmaceuticals

The highest number of billionaires comes from the Pharmaceuticals Industry. The industry has given around 137 billionaires so far. Poonawalla is the richest person in this industry, with a net worth of INR 88,800 crores.

As per research, India is the world’s third-largest volume producer and fourteenth-largest value manufacturer of pharmaceuticals.

2. Services & Software

The second industry to give the highest billionaires is service and software. As per the Hurun Report, the software and services sector has generated 73 billionaires.

Azim Premji is the richest person in this industry sector, with a net worth of INR 1,17,100 crores.

3. FMCG Industry

On the third spot is the FMCG Industry which has created 59 billionaires so far. Nusli Wadia & Family are the richest people in this industry, with a net worth of INR 42,200 crores.

4. Chemicals and Petrochemicals

India’s Chemicals and Petrochemicals industry has created 57 billionaires. Sri Prakash Lohia, whose net worth is INR 40,500 crores, is the richest billionaire in the sector.

5. Automobiles & Auto Components

The Automobiles & Auto Components industry of India has given 45 billionaires to the nation. Rahul Bajaj & Family are the wealthiest people in this industry, with a net worth of INR 60,700 crores.

6. Construction & Engineering

The Construction & Engineering Industry of India has also created 45 billionaires so far. P Pitchai Reddy is the richest person in the industry with a net worth of INR 13,400 crores.

7. Financial Services

The Financial Services sector of the country has delivered 43 billionaires with Uday Kotak being the richest with a net worth of INR 94,100 crores.

8. Food & Beverages

The Food & Beverages Industry has 39 billionaires. Ravi Jaipuria & Family are the richest lots that have a net worth of INR 11,500 crores.

9. Textiles, Apparels & Accessories

India’s Textiles, Apparels & Accessories has around 36 billionaires overall. Harish Ahuja is the richest person in this industry, with a net worth of INR 5,900 crores.

10. Real Estate

The Real Estate sector of India has 33 billionaires. The richest of them all is Jitendra Virwani who has a net worth of INR 29,900 crores.
