The YouGov’s Best brand Rankings is here and the results are a mixed bag of surprises and expected brand names.
Method of Ranking
The brands are ranked on the basis of the Index score, which is a measure of overall brand health. It is is calculated by taking the average of Impression, Quality, Value, Satisfaction, Recommend and Reputation.
The Index Rankings chart shows the brands with the highest average Index scores between the period from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. Similarly, The Index Improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in Index, comparing scores from the previous 12-month period.
All brands have been tracked for at least 6 months to be included in the rankings and have been tracked for at least 18 months to appear in the Improvers tables.
Results
Top Ten Brands 2021
Search engine giant Google, the search engine giant has retained the top spot for the third consecutive year in YouGov’s 2021 Best Brand Rankings for India with an index score of 54.2.
Following Google, is its subsidiary brand- YouTube which is second with an index score of 53.7 this year as well, marginally improving by a figure of +0.4, in its year-on-year brand health score.
Amazon moved up to third with an index score of 50.6, despite noting a decline in its year-on-year brand health score. However, Amazon’s video streaming service Amazon Prime strengthened its brand health perception over the year, making an entry into the top ten list at fifth position with an index score of 36.0.
WhatsApp recorded a decline in its score over the past year, moving down one place to fourth with an index score of 48.3. Similarly, Facebook moved down by three places at ninth position with an index score of 34.6.
E-commerce giant Flipkart, moved up three places coming sixth with an index score of 35.9. MakeMyTrip has also moved up one place to seventh with an index score of 35.2. Dettol Soaps, riding on its success amidst the pandemic situation, climbed up two places to eighth with an index score of 34.8.
Another new entrant on the list this year is Samsung, completing the top ten list. The brand has earned a place for itself in the 2021 top ten rankings with an index score of 32.4.
Top 10 Improvers
Telegram is the most improved brand of the past year, followed by Tata Motors at the second position and Samsung coming in third. Taj Hotels and Palaces appeared fourth due to ease in travel restrictions and improving vaccination rates.
Also, Tata acquired Air India, Yatra, Punjab National Bank, Lifebuoy Soaps, Myntra, and Kia Motors are other names that complete the list of top 10 improvers in India.
