Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has announced a $100 million strategic investment in immersive technology and entertainment company Cosm, marking a significant step in its push into experiential entertainment.
As the lead investor in Cosm’s Series C financing round, Sony Pictures will acquire a minority ownership stake in the company. The deal will also see SPE Chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja join Cosm’s board of directors.
Cosm is known for its “Shared Reality” technology, which combines physical venues with immersive digital experiences to create a new form of live entertainment. Through the partnership, Sony Pictures aims to explore new ways of extending its intellectual property and storytelling franchises into technology-driven, experiential formats.
The investment aligns with Sony Pictures’ broader strategy around experiential entertainment, fandom and emerging technologies. The company said the collaboration will help it create new opportunities for audience engagement while leveraging Sony’s strengths at the intersection of technology and creativity.
The move comes as media and entertainment companies increasingly look beyond traditional film and television formats to create immersive, venue-based experiences that deepen fan connections and unlock new revenue streams.
“Cosm sits at the intersection of several trends shaping the future of entertainment. We’ve followed Cosm since before launch and have been impressed with the quality of the experience and the enthusiasm it’s generating with audiences,” said Ravi Ahuja. “We’re excited to support Cosm’s next phase of growth and help bring these experiences to more fans around the world.”
“Sony Pictures shares our passion for innovation and the future of the fan experience, and this investment represents that,” added Cosm President and CEO Jeb Terry. “We will use this capital to fuel Cosm’s growth as we expand our venue network and advance our technology initiatives across both Sports and Entertainment. Sony is one of the most storied technology and entertainment companies in the world with IP spanning across films, tv, music, and games. Together, we’re positioned to bring more of the world’s most iconic IP to life in Shared Reality as we continue to super serve our fans around the world.”
