Refrain From Showing Live Coverage Of Anti-Terrorist Operations: MIB To News Channels

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued an advisory to all private satellite TV channels, directing them to avoid broadcasting live coverage of anti-terrorist operations conducted by security forces.

According to the Ministry, such telecast is in violation of Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021 and liable for action thereunder.

“Attention is invited to the anti-terrorist operations which are carried out by Security Forces in Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu. It has come to the notice of this Ministry that during ongoing anti-terrorist operations on June 11, 2024 and June 12, 2024 in Kathua and Doda Districts of Jammu, some news TV channels are carrying extensive coverage of these operations,” the Ministry said in the advisory.

The MIB has already issued advisories to all TV channels in adherence to Rule 6(l)(p) of Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021 (Copies of earlier advisories annexed). Rule 6(l)(p) states that no programme should be carried in the cable service which contains live coverage of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces, wherein media coverage shall be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government, till such operation concludes.

“All TV channels are advised not to telecast live coverage of anti-terrorist operation by the security forces in interest of national security and to safeguard innocent lives. Media coverage may be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government till the operation concludes,” MIB added.
