A watch worth Rs. 222 crores!
Patek Phillippe Watch Company made history after it sold a piece for a whopping $31 million (Rs. 222 crores) at a charity auction in Geneva.
The watch auctioned was the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime reference 6300A-010, a one of a kind watch made in stainless steel. Tagged as the most expensive wristwatch ever auctioned the watch has 20 complications, including a grande and petite sonnerie, a minute repeater, an instantaneous perpetual calendar with a four-digit year display, second-time zone, and 24-hour and minute subdial.
The watch’s most unique feature is front and back dials – one salmon-colored, the other black – that can be flipped or reversed
According to reports, Patek was sold as part of the eighth edition of the ‘Only Watch Auction’ held by Christie’s on Saturday, to benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
“We were expecting something around $15 million, maybe $20 million in our dreams,” the artnet quoted Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, as saying.
“But $31 million? No, I was not expecting that.”
He added: “I did not think we would surpass the extraordinary Henry Graves.”
