In the world of graphic design, a designer often finds themselves struggling with creating something noteworthy. The global film industry has been making some groundbreaking projects with the help of what is called the psychology of color.

The filmmakers use a combination of color themes that bring the best mood out of the picture. A visual representation of color play has a very stimulating effect on the viewers.

Many pieces of research are out there that describe in detail how different color palates are used and what emotions they emphasize often.

Psychology of Colors In Movies

Red

colors in movies

Represents intense feelings, including aggression, happiness, love, and passion. Red also evokes ideas of action, adventure, strength, and violence, and it has the ability to accelerate heart rate and breathing.

Orange

Orange is a combination of red and yellow, and the emotional and mental responses it creates are very much a combination of the two, as well. Orange can represent joy, creativity, and stimulation. However, it can also bring out thoughts of attraction, success, passion, and aggression.

Yellow

Yellow signifies madness, illness, insecurity, obsession, wisdom, and betrayal.

Green

Most of us associate green with nature, healing, and calmness. However, it is also viewed as relating to envy, greed, luxury, ominousness, corruption, danger, darkness, and also good taste.

Blue

Blue is associated with cold, depression, loyalty, peace, passivity, and calm. Filmmakers have been doing a wonderful job working with color in various forms.

Purple

Purple has been associated with royalty for so many years. It has been evoking the ideas of wealth, luxury, sophistication, power, sincerity, and authority. The purple color is associated with fantasy, ethereal, erotic, royalty, mystical, and power in the filmmaking industry.

Pink

Pink often relates to femininity and also brings to mind gentleness, gratitude, playfulness, happiness, tranquility, innocence, and youth.

Interesting, isn’t it? there are so many ways film makers use psychology to create certain behavior in the audience, and using the right colors becomes an important aspect to connect with the viewers on a deeper level. Did you how colors impact moods?
