Pocket FM has shut down Pocket TV, its microdrama platform, as the company sharpens its focus on its core audio business and international growth ambitions.
Launched as an experimental offering, Pocket TV was designed to test consumer demand in the rapidly expanding microdrama segment. However, the company has now decided to discontinue the platform as it prioritises resources towards its flagship audio storytelling business.
Pocket FM’s decision reflects a broader strategic shift as it prepares for its next phase of growth. The company is understood to be focusing on strengthening its audio content ecosystem and accelerating its international expansion efforts.
The closure also comes as Pocket FM reportedly gears up for future fundraising initiatives and explores the possibility of a public listing in the coming years, signalling a renewed emphasis on scaling its core business rather than diversifying into adjacent content formats.
Speaking on the matter, a Pocket FM spokesperson said, “Pocket TV was launched as a beta product to explore the emerging microdrama category and is not a material contributor to Pocket FM’s business. As with any product experiment, we periodically evaluate performance and strategic fit, and any decisions related to Pocket TV are part of that normal process.
They further added, “Our core focus remains building the world’s leading audio entertainment platform. Audio continues to account for the overwhelming majority of our business, and we remain focused on scaling the category globally. Today, Pocket FM is one of the largest audio entertainment platforms globally and continues to see strong growth across its key international markets.”
