American model Blac Chyna is facing backlash on social media after she announced her plans to promote her skin-lightening cream with beauty brand ‘Whitenicious’ in Lagos, Nigeria.

The reality star having 14.8million followers on Instagram announced about the official launch of Diamond Illuminating & Lightening cream from the company.

‘Lagos Nigeria, join me at the first official launch of my face cream this Sunday, November 25th at the Whitenicious store from 1-5PM,’ she wrote. ‘Everyone is invited.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqd7XMVAqFv/

The product is soo fancy that it even has Swarovski crystals on the bottle. Yes! Actual crystals.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nigeria has the highest percentage of women using skin-lightening products at 77 percent. While the cream claims to lighten and brighten skin without bleaching, critics of the product don’t agree.

Here are some responses that prove the same:

Sad thing, people will buy it

Blac Chyna selling bleaching cream in Africa??? The world really is backwards, sad thing is people will actually buy it.

Bleaching creams aren’t cool

I have a personal vow with myself to avoid arguing with other BW on social media however @BLACCHYNA you’re a dickhead for this. As a BW and as a Nigerian I think you’re vile for being complicit in something so damaging. Bleaching creams are not cool. pic.twitter.com/qgS2tBwcyX

Feeling beyond disgusted at this point.

This country has never been serious in anything innovative this year.

thought we were done with kupe boys coming to Nigeria now, Blac Chyna coming to sell her bleaching cream for 90k per jar. This country has never been serious in anything innovative this year. Buhari must go come 2019, we've had enough!!

Talking about Chyna life she has a complicated history with the Kardashian family and shares a daughter, Dream, with Rob. She was a one-time friend of Kim Kardashian, however, the relationship cooled once Kim’s then-teenage sister Kylie began dating Chyna’s ex Tyga.

Celebrities should be very careful while choosing the demographics before promoting a product as it can go as a negative for their future promotions also. We have share several incidents where brands and celebs had to face backlash for not understanding the behavior of users on social media.
