German Car Manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has launched the first BSVI (Bharat Stage VI emission norms) vehicle made in India. The name of this car is Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 350d. The company has followed government’s new norms more than two years ahead of the deadline of April 2020. Currently, all the new vehicles are being registered in BSIV emission compliant. The company claims that this new engine produces 68% less nitrous oxides and 82% less particulate matter which will give better fuel efficiency. It is expected that the Indian government will roll out BS-VI fuel across the country by April 2020; until then this Mercedes-Benz car will run on BS-IV fuel.
Roland Folger MD, CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “We are glad to fulfill our commitment to the customers and to the Government’s Vision of ‘Make in India’. The introduction of India’s first BS VI vehicle is a significant milestone and we strongly believe that this will pave the way for other manufacturers to introduce BS VI vehicles in India.”
Along with this, Mercedes-Benz has also received the certificate in compliance with the Central motor vehicles rule (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India.
Nitin Gadkari even twitted about this:
Taking another step in our commitment for cleaner environment, handed over India's first BS-VI compliant certificate to @MercedesBenzInd. It is a matter of immense pleasure that this vehicle is also a "Make in India, for India" #MakeInIndia #TransformingIndia pic.twitter.com/xmRM8DmKog
