Amid the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has removed 6,12,729 political advertisements spread across 12 zones till date.
As per reports, this information is as per an official document. Following the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) order, the Delhi civic body has taken down 2,64,798 hoardings, 2,67,867 posters/banners/wall paintings, 45,971 signages, and 34,093 flags from various locations across the city.
As per ECI’s order, any kind of poster, hoarding, or banner promoting a political party or leader in a public place must be removed within 24 hours of the announcement of the election schedule.
The imposition of MCC nationwide occurred on March 16 with the ECI’s announcement of the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The elections are scheduled to take place from April 19 in seven phases. The national capital will vote on May 25 in the sixth phase and the counting of votes will take place on June 4.
