The MET Gala is one of the year’s most-awaited fashion soirees. Dubbed as ‘fashion’s biggest night’, the event is held on the first Monday of the month of May, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The MET Gala 2023 was based on the theme Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, honoring the late German designer’s contributions to the world of fashion.
From Rihanna and Jared Leto to Bradley Cooper and MET Gala debutant Alia Bhatt, all walked the red carpet in style. However, an interesting fact about this year’s MET Gala will pleasantly surprise you.
The red carpet this year has an Indian connection apart from being walked upon by Indian celebrities like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Isha Ambani Piramal, and Natasha Poonawalla.
And that fact is, that the carpet is made in India. Yes, you heard that right!
The carpet, though not exactly red, as the name suggests, was made by Kerala-based design house Nyett by Extraweave. It was beige in color with swirls of red and blue.
Measuring 6960 square meters, the 2023 MET Gala carpet was made out of 58 30×4-meter rolls and was woven by artisans in Alleppey over a span of 60 days.
The stunning carpet made of 100% Sisal fibers was hand-painted by designers in the United States.
The beauty was created along the lines of the vision of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and Nimisha Srinivas and Sivan Santhosh were in charge of this mammoth project.
The makers shared this news on their social media handles.
