The Income Tax Department, in the city of Kanpur, did a GST registration check and found out that multiple shopkeepers haven’t been paying their dues quite as diligently as they should. In the last few years, they have only paid the GST registration fees but haven’t been paying any taxes. What turned out to prove itself as much bigger was the fact that these shopkeepers, have been saving up on all the money and have quite literally become millionaires!
As per News18, with their savings over the years, these shopkeepers have saved up enough to buy land which is worth ₹372 cr. These lands have been bought in the posh areas of Swaroop Nagar, Aryanagar, Hulaganj, Birhana Road, Gumti, and Pirod.
There are two sanitation workers from Beconganj and Lalbangla who own properties worth more than ten whopping crores while a snackseller from Mallroad pays an amount of ₹1.25 lakh as rent for two different carts. There are even small grocery stores and druggists who haven’t even registered themselves with GST records and are millionaires in nature.
