Jet Airways has been fined to pay Rs.50,000 to a passenger who found a button in his in-flight meal during a flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad on August 6, 2014. Hemant Desai, the passenger had found a button in the garlic bread and he immediately raised the issue, the airways staff tried to settle the matter but Desai refused and sued the company for Rs 3 lakh.
Jet argued that the button hadn’t harmed him; and he didn’t cooperate with the airways staff when they reached out to him. In response of this, Hemant submitted an email that he received form the company in which Jet had apologized and offered to settle, in which they failed.
After knowing the details about this case, the consumer court said that getting an inedible object like a button in food shows the careless behavior of the airlines towards the passangers and the rude behaviour done by the staff is also not acceptable.
The consumer court has announced the decision according to which Jet Airlines will pay the passanger Rs. 50,000 for the agony caused and another Rs. 5,000 for his legal expenses.
